The exciting news for Australian musicians today, is that AllansMusic and Billy Hyde stores will remain open.
Con Gallin, managing director of Australian Musical Imports and Gallin’s Musician’s Pro Shop, has bought the bulk of AllansMusic / Billy Hyde assets after months of negotiating with receivers Ferrier Hodgson.
Con Gallin announced that they had purchased Australian Music Group and related businesses, Allan’s Music / Billy Hyde, Musiclink and Intermusic. Gallin also confirmed that flagship stores Southport (Qld), Sydney, Alexandria, Parramatta, Adelaide, Blackburn and Bourke Street, Melbourne will remain fully operational.
After being placed into receivership Allans Billy Hyde, Australia’s largest independent music retailer, continued trading until its stores were closed last weekend, with its 513 employees sacked. Mr Gallin said most workers at the seven flagship stores would return when those stores reopened. Another 80 employees had already been made redundant in recent months.
AMI/Gallin’s Musician’s Pro Shop opened their first store in Chapel Street, Prahran in 1989, and in the ensuing 23 years have successfully opened stores in Sydney, Brisbane and Gold Coast. The addition of the Allans Billy Hyde stores brings the total music stores operated by Mr. Gallin to thirteen.
The current liquidation sale taking place in the Allans Billy Hyde stores will continue with AMI/Gallin’s adding additional stock from their warehouse and suppliers to give consumers additional discounted items right in time for Christmas.
Cootamundra recently had the pleasure of having Janet Seidel and the boys perform at our Arts Centre… a wonderful night was had by all who attended.
During the day preceding the show Chuck Morgan lead a Ukulele workshop with some of our local, budding, music enthusiast. It was a huge success, so I thought I would share some of the comments made by the students.
“I bought my first Reunion Blues gig bag twenty five years ago when ‘No Doubt’ ruled the Hollywood Club Scene … I was hell bent to look cool walking up to a gig. The classic and luxurious RB gig bag did the job and then some! Built to last and tough as a coffin nail, just like me! I still rock that bag, it still works fine and is sexy as ever … Reunion Blues is the best damn gig bag on the market … PERIOD!”

From ABC Radio National Life Matters programme, comes a charming interview with Tina Broad, an inspiring lady with a love of music and of life.
For listener Tina Broad, music is her life both in work and leisure. After doing ‘the Yoko Ono thing’ for years while her musician husband was on the road Tina has now stepped up to the microphone and is having a love affair with the ukulele.
She is part of the all female ukulele group Chooks on a Hot Tin Roof and heads up The Glorious MUD Singers, an eighty strong choir from the Milton Ulladulla region. Her day job is with the Music Council of Australia’s Play for Life Program.
