Music Education Making a Difference in Far North Queensland

If anyone doubts the effectiveness of a school music program, then they should watch this video to see the difference it can make in the lives of young people living in isolated communities at Cape York.

Well known Australian jazz drummer John Morrison talks about his visit to the Aurukun campus of the Cape York Aboriginal Australian Academy (CYAAA) for a week of intense music tuition and training.

“We build in discipline to the way they hold their instruments and the way they breathe, and then of course eventually that turns into self-discipline”

The three campuses of CYAAA (Hopevale, Coen and Aurukun) will be performing at the Queensland Music Festival concert during the Yarrabah Band Festival on July 22 at Yarrabah.
